WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TX — Over the course of 24 hours, Williamson County health officials on Saturday reported an increase of 80 in cases of the coronavirus — bringing the historical total to 1,850. The number of deaths since the onset of respiratory illness remained unchanged at 35.
The updated figures were tabulated on a stastical dashboard maintained by Williamson County and Cities Health District officials that is updated daily by around 4:30 p.m. The dashboard also show there are 971 active cases of the respiratory illness for which no vaccine exists.
Additionally, the data show 818 patients have recovered from the illness since contracting the virus. The increased illness count comes one day after county health officials reported 69 new diagnoses and three more related deaths.

The illness uptick in Williamson County comes amid soaring rates of coronavirus across Texas. In efforts to stem the tide, Gov. Greg Abbott and officials in neighboring Travis County have taken steps to help stem the tide:
- The governor on Friday ordered all bars to close, along with tubing and rafting operations.
- Austin and Travis County officials issued orders banning outdoor crowds of more than 100 people.
- On Thursday, Abbott also put a pause on continued reopening of the economy, which amounts to holding off on allowing businesses catering to the public to operate at full capacity since most businesses had already been allowed to reopen per his earlier orders.
- Also on Thursday, Abbott banned all elective surgeries and procedures from taking place to make hospital space available for a potential influx of newly diagnosed coronavirus patients.

Despite soaring rates of illness and mitigating measures being taken elsewhere, Williamson County Judge Bill Gravell has not taken measures to curb illness spread short of advising the wearing of protective facial coverings and dispensing advice to residents on keeping a good distance from others when outdoors.
