CLEVELAND, Ohio — For those hoping to enjoy the Cuyahoga River this summer, there’s a new player in town. The CLE Tiki Barge has arrived and the island-themed pontoon boat will begin offering cruises June 13.
The 30-foot custom-built boat can fit up to 20 guests. It features an astroturf floor, thatched tiki roof, bar, Bluetooth sound system and other tropical-themed decor. cleveland.com got a sneak peek Tuesday and you can see photos and video from the cruise above and below.
“I grew up on boats. My whole life was spent boating. I saw the tiki boat idea and thought it would be great for Cleveland,” said CLE Tiki Barge owner Brittany Orlando. “There’s a lot to see along the river such as restaurants, businesses and our gorgeous skyline.”
Cruises depart from the west bank of the Flats. The tiki barge then makes its way down the Cuyahoga River and, weather dependent, to Lake Erie inside the breakwall to see additional views of the city.
Guests need to bring their own beverages on the cruise, but a bartender is on board to serve the drinks. Ice, a blender and coolers are provided. Cups will be available for purchase and food may be brought as well. And yes, there is a bathroom.
Individual tickets are $40 or guests can rent the entire boat for $700. Each reservation is for two hours and the boat takes six trips a day, seven days a week. Guests must be 21 for individual reservations, but all ages are welcome on private cruises.
Special events will be planned throughout the summer, including a Moms and Mimosas cruise at 10 a.m. every Monday through Thursday in June. More events may be announced in the future, such as potential trivia and karaoke nights, so check the CLE Tiki Barge Facebook page for more information.
“It’s beautiful being out on the water,” said Dominic Tamerlano of Richfield during his first ride on CLE Tiki Barge. “You get the breeze, the sun, the music and drinks of course. It’s a good time.”
The boat, which has been certified by the United States Coast Guard, will be driven by a United States Coast Guard licensed captain. Adult and child-size life jackets are on board.
Reservations can be made online or by calling 833-747-2929. Saturday cruises are sold out for the summer and there is limited availability for Friday and Sunday spots.
