The remnants of Hurricane Ida are expected to hit Hudson County and New Jersey on Wednesday, bringing heavy rain, flash flooding, and the chance of an isolated tornado in the Tri-State area.
Ida, which has weakened into a tropical depression, made landfall in southeastern Louisiana on Sunday as a Category 4 hurricane, creating massive damage, flooding, and power outages in the South.
The National Weather Service in New York forecasts that the storm will hit the Tri-State area from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday afternoon. About 5.4 inches of rain is predicted for New York City. Hudson County is at high risk for flash flooding.
The NWS warned that “scattered to widespread flash flooding of urban and poor drainage areas as well as small streams and creaks is likely. Rises on main stem rivers are possible, which could lead to additional flooding.” It also warned that an isolated tornado “cannot be ruled out, especially near the coast.”
A flash flood watch was issued for Hudson County, Wednesday at 2 p.m. through Thursday at 2 p.m.
