As the U.S. Gulf Coast braces for Hurricane Ida’s landfall, forecasters say the storm could bring heavy rain and flooding to central Pennsylvania by midweek.
But before that storm reaches us, we’re in for a smaller dose of showers and thunderstorms.
According to the National Hurricane Center, Ida is an extremely dangerous, major hurricane poised to reach the southeastern coast of Louisiana Sunday with life-threatening storm surges, heavy rainfall and damaging winds.
The Category 4 hurricane, coming on the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, could be one of the most powerful storms to hit the Louisiana in more than a century, the New York Times is reporting.
In the Harrisburg region, Sunday will start off with patchy fog with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m. and through the evening. It will be a mostly cloudy day with a high of 83 and a low of 71.
Monday will start off the workweek with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms, increasing to a 70 percent chance after 2 p.m. and a 60 percent chance in the evening. Otherwise, Monday should be partly sunny with a high of 88 and a low of 70.
On Tuesday, expect mostly cloudy skies with a 30 percent chance of showers and a high of 83 and a low of 68.
According to the National Weather Service at State College, weather models are showing Ida could hit central Pennsylvania with heavy rain and possible flooding on Wednesday. South central Pennsylvania could be in for 3 to 5 inches of rain. Expect a high of 74 and a low of 62.
Thursday should be sunny with a high of 77 and a low of 57.
Friday will be another sunny day with a high near 78 and a low around 59.
And Saturday will be sunny with a high near 80.
