BLOOMINGTON (Heart of Illinois ABC) -- Those visiting Miller Park Zoo Saturday got to cool off in the heat, enjoy some ice cream and help benefit Bloomington High School.
The zoo partnered with Hope Worldwide Bloomington-Normal chapter to collect school supplies for students.
Families visiting the zoo were asked to donate whatever supplies they could to prepare students for back to school.
Those who donated supplies got to enjoy free ice cream while getting to see their favorite animals.
"We're always looking for something at the end of the summer to do to get people to come back out hopefully for their second trip to the zoo this summer," business manager Anthony Nelson said. "We always thought we'd team up with a local school and have it go to a good cause."
Nelson said as of Saturday afternoon, around two boxes worth of school supplies were donated to dozens of students and their families.
