The New Orleans Saints are bringing back a player they had high hopes for last year. On Tuesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Saints and linebacker Kwon Alexander had agreed to terms on a one-year deal worth up to $3 million. Alexander played his college ball at LSU, so New Orleans is somewhat home for him.

Alexander was released by the Saints in March after his season was ended by a torn Achilles tendon suffered on Christmas. It didn't help that the Saints were dealing with a hellish cap scenario, either. Back in June, it was reported that Alexander would be visiting the Saints after he was cleared to resume football activity. The Saints traded for the former San Francisco 49ers star in November to gear up for a potential Super Bowl run, but Alexander played in just seven games and recorded 27 combined tackles, two fumble recoveries and four passes defended before suffering his season-ending injury.

Alexander, who turned 27 on Tuesday, was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft. After four seasons in Tampa and a Pro Bowl selection in 2017, he signed with the 49ers in 2019, but played in a total of 13 games before being dealt to New Orleans. While the Saints lost some pieces this offseason, New Orleans finished with the No. 4 overall defense in the league in 2020. Alexander is a welcomed addition to a linebacking corps which includes the talented Demario Davis, and the young duo of Zack Baun and Pete Werner
