Syracuse, N.Y. -- A verbal exchange between Bishop Grimes head coach John Cifonelli and one of his players during a Dec. 16 game against East Syracuse Minoa was apparently the spark that led to his firing two days later.
Assistant coach Timm O’Connor, who was also fired in the aftermath of the incident, said that nothing about the interaction in the moment seemed out of line and that both he and Cifonelli were surprised by their firings.
