2020 Democrat Andrew Yang said that the Democratic National Committee could be better at unifying the country if the organization allowed more interactions on Fox News.
Yang, 45, answered a question at an Iowa town hall last week and suggested that it was a mistake for the DNC to bar Fox News from hosting a debate. He claimed that the only way to unify the country was to speak to all Americans, including the ones who watch Fox News. During a Sunday interview on Fox News Sunday, Yang explained why he chose to appear on the network and how it could benefit other Democrats to do the same.
“It came up at an event here in Iowa. Someone asked how we’re going to bring the country together, and I thought, 'Well, if you’re going to bring the country together, you have to start by talking to Americans,'" he said. "I pointed out this example where the DNC decided not to have any of the presidential debates on Fox, which I thought was a mistake.”
Yang explained that he hasn’t discussed the issue with the committee since making the remarks, but added: “I think this is common sense. To me, hopefully, the DNC will adopt a different approach in the future because we have to bring the entire country together. The problems that face us affect all of us, and we need to come together as a country to solve them.”
Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez said that Fox News was “not in a position” to host a debate when he announced that the network would be barred early last year. He claimed that the chummy relationship between some of the prime-time hosts and the president made the network unfit, something many of the news anchors, including Chris Wallace, took offense to.
