Abortion rights opponents are gathering in D.C. Friday for the 47th annual March for Life, expected to bring thousands of people to the National Mall for a rally and a march up Constitution Avenue.
The potential for big crowds in the middle of downtown in the middle of a weekday grew on Wednesday afternoon, when President Donald Trump tweeted that he would attend. This would make him the first sitting president to be at the march in person.
The march and rally is a culmination of three days of events including an expo, a youth rally and more. The rally will be held on the Mall at 12th Street Friday at noon, with the march to start at about 1 p.m. There’s a pre-rally concert outside the Capital One Arena at about 10:30 a.m.
The event will lead to numerous road closures and parking restrictions, most lasting until about 3 p.m., as well as changes on Metro. You can find out more about those, and about the event, on WTOP’s FAQ page.
The March for Life marks the 47th anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, the Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion nationwide. Organizers consider abortion a human-rights violation. For more information on the event, check the organizers’ website.
