Dry weather is expected across Massachusetts on Friday before a storm hits the state Saturday, bringing with it a mix of rain and snow.
A mix of snow and rain are expected in areas of higher elevations across the Berkshires and northern Worcester County near Fitchburg late Saturday morning and early afternoon, with a brief period of sleet and pockets of freezing rain possible before the precipitation changes over to just rain.
The storm is expected to bring rain to the rest of the state that will start to taper off overnight. An inch or more of precipitation is expected for most of the state, with lesser amounts predicted in Southeastern Massachusetts.
“The main period of rainfall will occur during the late afternoon into the evening,” the National Weather Service said.
Gusty coastal winds are also possible late Saturday, as the storm tracks across southern New England. Wind gusts will reach close to 22 miles per hour in Springfield and as high as 31 miles per hour in Boston at night. Brief gusts of nearly 20 miles per hour are possible for Worcester on Sunday.
High temperatures will range from 35 degrees to 46 degrees across Massachusetts on Saturday.
“Mainly dry and mild conditions return Sunday," the National Weather Service said. “Then dry and seasonable for much of next week."
