SERGEANT BLUFF, Iowa (KTIV)- Emergency personnel are some of the many people who are hard at work during the Coronavirus pandemic.
The pandemic has some people feeling hopeless and maybe even frustrated. The Sergeant Bluff Fire and Rescue relates to those emotions- and took the time to try and bring some light to the community.
"Fire Departments across the state just trying to be positive in light of everything that's going on," said Anthony Gaul, Sergeant Bluff Fire and Rescue Fire Chief.
Wednesday night Sergeant Bluff Fire and Rescue, and fire departments across Siouxland brought hope to their communities by opening their garage doors and turning on the lights of their fire engines.
"We're quite impressed by what the citizens, the businesses, people in our communities have been doing and it's time to look back at that positive," said Gaul.
Gaul has been with the department since 1991.
He says the COVID-19 pandemic is a unique type of emergency.
"It's different than what we've experienced in the past," said Gaul. "We've had some small things, we've had the flooding around. So it's a different type of disaster and emergency. And I think if we all chip in and do our part, we will get through this and hopefully look back-whatever time this takes- and say hey, we made it through this and we're ready to take on the next challenge."
The fire chief says he and his crew are holding up well, and have learned a lot since the pandemic first began.
But they are happy to take part in nights like this one, to show they are there for the community and can give people light of hope.
"90% of things in life we can have some control over," said Gaul. "That other 10% we can't- we can't worry about that. We've got to worry about the 90% we can control and focus on what we have, not what we don't have."
Gaul says he looks forward to doing other positive things during this pandemic.
Countless other community fire departments took part in Wednesday night's event. That includes the Hornick, Ruthven, Granville, Sloan, Moville, and Sheldon, just to name a few.
