Weekend storm expected to bring snow, rain and strong winds - Duluth News Tribune

A spring storm will move into the region over the weekend, bringing snow, heavy rain, strong winds and potential for flooding.

The National Weather Service in Duluth reported that a mix of rain and snow will move into the area early Saturday morning, turning into rain for most of Saturday before switching to snow in the evening and overnight. Sunday morning should see another mix of snow and rain.

The weather service reported that there's still time for the storm to shift its track, changing the predicted snowfall and rainfall amounts.

Northeast winds will increase Saturday afternoon and remain strong overnight. The strong northeast winds were reported with high confidence was reported

The worst part of the storm, and the heaviest snowfall, is expected to occur Saturday night.

The bottom two-thirds of St. Louis County along with Carlton, Aitkin, Lake and Cook counties in Minnesota are in a storm watch. Douglas and Ashland counties in Wisconsin are as well.

Much of that area is forecast to see around 1 inch of rain. The weather service reported that heavy rainfall expected Saturday could lead to flooding on basements as well as flooding along the south shore of Lake Superior.
