JACKSON, MI – Defense wins championships.
At least that was the case Friday night, as three Jackson-area girls basketball teams captured district championship trophies thanks in large part to their defensive prowess.
Parma Western maneuvered past a talented Eaton Rapids by holding the Greyhounds to just five points in the fourth quarter for a 45-34 win, while Lumen Christi held Leslie to just two points in the fourth quarter of their district championship game to secure a 38-30 win in front of their home fans. Michigan Center kept Columbia Central in check to the tune of a 28-12 halftime lead and powered past the Golden Eagles for a 47-35 win in their district title tilt.

The Blackhawks opened the game on a 19-11 run but offense would be difficult to manufacture the rest of the way, as the Titan defense only allowed 11 points the next three-quarters of action.
