Cuomo calls for federal coordination of supply chain to bring testing to scale - WBNG-TV

(WBNG) -- Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Saturday that he called for the federal organization of the supply chain to bring coronavirus testing to scale.

Governor Cuomo said he wants to do this so that states can begin to reopen some functions. Cuomo said in a press conference on Saturday that tests are created by private laboratory equipment manufacturers. He also said that those manufacturers sell the tests to smaller labs, who sell them to hospitals and the public. Cuomo said that upon inquiring New York State labs, they needed more reagents to double their testing.

Cuomo also talked about issuing an executive order which allows New Yorkers to obtain a marriage license remotely. He said that this executive order allows clerks to perform ceremonies over video calls.

Additionally, Cuomo reiterated the call he spoke about a week ago for $500 billion in aid to states from the National Governors Association. The $500 billion in unrestricted aid is there to provide states with economic stability and allow states to perform reopening functions.
