How to Bring Spring Inside Without Leaving the House - HouseBeautiful.com
House Beautiful
For those seeking a useful way to spend their time during social distancing—or anyone simply interested in forging a deeper connection with their homes—HB has launched Home Love, a series of daily tips and ideas to make every minute indoors more productive (and gratifying!).
If you've stepped outside—or logged onto Instagram—lately, you've likely noticed: Spring is in the air in many parts of the United States. Cherry trees and dogwoods are blooming, it's staying light longer, and a winter chill is making way for mild, warm breezes. Of course, this spring is different: Instead of enjoying picnics in the park with friends, or dining al fresco at our favorite restaurants, many of us are staying inside. But that doesn't mean you can't enjoy the warmer season! All it takes is a little creativity and your home can be feeling as fresh and springy as the air outside. Read on for some clever ways to amp up some spring vibes at home.

1Open the Windows
Sure, it might sound simple, but throwing open your windows and doors will let fresh air circulate through the home—something you've probably been missing while cooped up in there. Plus, even if you don't have the kind of balcony writer Laura Itzkowitz does in her Rome apartment, an open window will carry the sounds of spring inside. Trust me, the sound of birds chirping will do wonders for your mental health.
2Paint a Pattern
Although they look like Portuguese tile, the walls of Alessandara Branca's room at this year's Kips Bay Palm Beach are actually painted on. While your hand may not be quite as detailed as those of the masters at de Gournay, you can still break out the paint and create a doorway detail (see what Aldous Bertram did here) or wall design—after all, as India Hicks reminds us, it's removable!
3Light a Floral Candle

What's the next-best thing to smelling fresh flowers? A candle that smells just like them. Aerin's Sintra Gardenia candle has notes of the favorite floral that aren't overpowering. Plus, the box is pretty enough to display in lieu of flowers, too.
4Set a Fresh Table
Staying in doesn't have to mean eating in front of the TV on those same boring white plates every night. Set your table with a colorful mix of linens, plates, and accessories (trust us, they don't have to match!), like Emily Henderson did here. Not a dinner party expert? You don't need a full linen closet: a floral scarf or throw can act as a tablecloth and any decorative objects—or even colorful food–can stand in for flowers on the table.
5Air Out Your Linens
Give the linens in your home a breath of fresh air. Shake out throw blankets, pillowcases, sofa cushions, sheets, and coverlets—and maybe even spritz with a relaxing, scented spray like Parachute's Linen Mist —before rearranging them freshly.
Bookshelves are essentially galleries of the home, so why not change up your home by rearranging yours? And you don't have to stick to books—add decorative objects, plants, or art to create a colorful vignette, like Alex Hitz did in his Los Angeles home.
7Invest in Faux Flora

For flowers that will last a long time, invest in a good faux. The ones at Bloomist are eco-friendly and SUPER realistic looking—no watering necessary!
8Use Your Extra Spaces
Have a garden shed, pool house—even a garage? Use it! Transform any unused spaces to serve as retreats at home, like this art shed designed by Cathy Kincaid. With its light, airy palette, it almost feels like an escape to a beach house.
