5 new coronavirus cases bring total in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties to 811 - Pensacola News Journal

Escambia County on Sunday reported just four new coronavirus cases, while Santa Rosa County added only one additional case.

The latest report from the Florida Department of Health puts the two-county total at 811 —  638 in Escambia County and 173 in Santa Rosa County.

Statewide, 40,596 cases have been confirmed, which is an increase of 595 from the previous day. Of those, 7,171 cases have resulted in hospitalizations, including 52 people in Escambia County and 23 in Santa Rosa County.

The state's death toll increased by six to reach 1,721.

No new deaths were reported in either Escambia or Santa Rosa counties on Sunday.

Escambia County has reported 18 deaths, including 13 in long-term care centers. They include four residents at Bayside Health and Rehabilitation Center, one resident at Arcadia Health and Rehabilitation Center, four residents at Brookdale Pensacola, and three residents and one staff member at Southern Oaks Care Center.

As of Sunday, at least 28% of the 638 cases in Escambia County involve either residents or staff of long-term care facilities. The exact percentage of total cases is impossible to give because long-term care cases are only listed if they are currently active cases, meaning the numbers fluctuate as additional patients test positive or previously confirmed cases test negative.

In Santa Rosa County, there have been a total of nine deaths, including six inmates at Blackwater River Correctional Facility. The Milton prison had 65 confirmed cases — 54 inmates and 11 staff — as Saturday, according to the Florida Department of Corrections.

About 6% of the 10,598 people tested so far in Escambia County have been positive for the virus. In Santa Rosa County, about 4% of the 4,078 tested have been positive.
