The New York Stock Exchange on Tuesday observed a rare moment of silence at noon in honor of George Floyd's burial in his hometown in Houston. Floyd was killed in Minneapolis after being pinned under former police officer Derek Chauvin's knee for nearly nine minutes on May 25. Chauvin, who is white, has been charged with second-degree murder in Floyd's death. On Monday, a judge held bail for Chauvin at $1 million. The death of the 46-year-old black man sparked a weeklong protest across the U.S., and parts of the world, amid calls for reformation of the police force and the broader measures to enact racial justice. Senate Democrats earlier this week stood in silence for almost 10 minutes to honor the memories of African-Americans killed in recent racially charged incidents.
