Get ready for some hot, sticky weather: Remnants of Cristobal expected to bring the heat - Democrat & Chronicle

Cold beverage alert: The remnants of tropical system Cristobal are about to bring some very warm, moist air to our region.

The change will begin later on Tuesday, said Kirk Apffel, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Buffalo.

“Things start heating up toward the end of the day,” he said, when a high temperature of 89 degrees is expected. However, the humidity will be relatively low.

“The dew point is going to run around 60,” he said, “so more moist than yesterday, but not a really big factor.”

On Wednesday, things warm up; a high of 92 degrees is expected. The record for the date is 94, set in 1947. “So it’ll be close,” Apffel said.

More significantly, though, the dew point will rise to 70, “so that will make a big difference,” he said, quite possibly pushing the heat index — how hot it really feels when humidity is factored in — into the upper 90s.

Rochester weather: Forecast, radar and more

Monroe County Executive Adam Bello took to Twitter to issue a warning: “Make sure you’re drinking plenty of fluid, avoiding strenuous activity and paying close attention to your children and older family members!”

It will still be sticky on Thursday, but with a high temperature in the mid-70s. Friday will be much dryer with a high in the mid-70s.
