Remains of Tropical Storm Cristobal bring flooded roads to Mid-Missouri - ABC17News.com

News

COLUMBIA Mo. (KMIZ)

Rain flooded some Mid-Missouri roads Tuesday morning as the remains of Tropical Storm Cristobal made their way through the state.

Boone County Fire Protection District assistant chief Gale Blomenkamp says after the heat we've seen for the past few days, the rain can cause roads to become extra slippery.

"We've had very high temperatures over the last several days, which brings oil from the asphalt to the top of the surface, then you put water on top of that it makes it very slick," Blomenkamp said.

The National Weather Service in St. Louis has issued a flood warning for Hinkson Creek in Columbia.

"We've already seen this morning with about 2 inches of rain in the last seven, eight hours is flash flooding and typical low-lying areas that are flooded," Blomenkamp said.

Boone County's 911 center put out several warnings about flooded roads, including Creasy Springs Road, Brown Station Road and Proctor Drive.

Crashes were also reported on Highway 63 and Interstate 70.

Around noon, Cole County Public Works sent out a road closing list due to flooding which featured 7 roads that were closed on Tuesday.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop F also tweeted out some info about some low-water crossings that still may be flooded in Miller County.
