Moving can be an exciting process, even if a little stressful. You may have some questions about what to bring to campus and how to be ready for the coming semester. The best way to be prepared is to plan in advance. Here are some things to bring to campus this fall.
A bike and U-lock
Bicycles are a popular and excellent way to get around campus and Boulder. You’ll want to make sure you have a U-lock – the most secure kind – to keep your bike safe.
Our Bike Rental Program will have semester-long rentals available by appointment and during the Semester Bike Rental Drive on Aug. 21-24.
You can also check out the online CU Bike Sale in September (stay tuned for dates and details). And Community Cycles in Boulder has affordable refurbished used bikes for sale. Make sure to register your bike once you get to campus access Bike Program services.
Used books and sustainable school supplies
Save money and natural resources by renting your textbooks or buying them used. Both of these options are available at the CU Book Store and many online outlets. You can also check for textbooks in the University Libraries catalog.
When shopping for school supplies look for sustainable options. This includes notebooks and paper with post-consumer recycled content and refillable pens and pencils, also available at the CU Book Store. Writable e-readers, smart notebooks and electronic tablets can be a great option for taking hand-written notes with less paper over the long term.
Reusable items
Reusable items can be convenient when traveling between campus and your residence. Here are common reusable items to bring:
Looking to furnish your apartment or home?
Almost everything you need to furnish your living space can be found at thrift stores in Boulder County. Save money and add character to your space by buying reused. Check out these Boulder County reuse resources.
-
Water bottle
-
Travel mug

Shopping bag

Utensil set
Green cleaning supplies
As we learn more about the impacts of conventional cleaning products on the environment, we recommend using eco-friendly products. Essentials like reusable rags, baking soda and white vinegar are a good place to start. When shopping for other green cleaning products, look for products made from renewable resources (plants) that are free from harsh chemicals.
Smart power strip
A smart power strip with energy-saving features can help you save money and protect all of your devices from power surges.
Choose LED lighting
Look for energy-efficient LEDs and compact fluorescent light bulbs as you choose lighting for your spaces.
Sustainable Buffs is a series brought to you by the Environmental Center. Learn more sustainability tips and ways to get involved at colorado.edu/ecenter.
