LONG BEACH — U.S. marshals exchanged gunfire Thursday in Long Beach with a man wanted on narcotics charges, but no injuries were reported.

The shooting occurred about 12:15 p.m. in the area of 12th Street and Cedar Avenue when John Troxell allegedly opened fire on members of the U.S. Marshals Service Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force who were attempting to arrest him, said the service’s Shaunteh Kelly.

The task force members returned fire, though no one was injured in the shooting, Kelly said.

Troxell, who was wanted on a felony arrest warrant out of Colorado for narcotics distribution charges, was detained and taken to a hospital for an unspecified injury unrelated to the shooting, and he will be booked following treatment, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

The 54-year-old Troxell’s city of residence was not immediately released.

The Long Beach Police Department was not involved in the shooting but was assisting the investigation.
