LEXINGTON Va. (WSET) — In an effort to enhance safety and security for community members engaging in private property exchanges, the Lexington Police Department has announced the creation of a Safe Exchange Zone.
The department recently created a specific area in the parking lot for this purpose. The Safe Exchange Zone is aimed at providing a secure environment for various transactions, including custody exchanges, e-commerce deals, and other private property exchanges where safety concerns may arise.

The area in the parking lot is covered by 24-7 video surveillance.
However, it's important to note that the Safe Exchange Zone is not intended for drop-off purposes. Law enforcement personnel stationed at the site will not participate in facilitating transactions unless there is an emergency or criminal activity involved.
