A law enforcement source told 5 On Your Side that police were pursuing a vehicle on Bond Avenue when it crashed into another car.
CAHOKIA HEIGHTS, Ill. — A suspect was shot during an exchange of gunfire with police following a fatal pursuit crash Friday afternoon in Cahokia Heights, according to a law enforcement source familiar with the investigation.
The incident happened on Bond Avenue at South 36th Street near the city's border with East St. Louis.
A law enforcement source told 5 On Your Side that police were pursuing a vehicle on Bond Avenue when it crashed into another car.
The suspect then got out of his car and fired a gun at police. Police returned fire and struck him, the source said. The man was taken to an area hospital, where he was in critical condition.
Relatives told 5 On Your Side's Robert Townsend that 60-year-old Marilyn Hill was killed when the suspect's vehicle crashed into her car. A family friend who was a passenger in her car also died.
Hill, who lived about 4 miles from where the crash happened, had a 17-year-old daughter, family members said.
No further information on the pursuit or what led up to the crash was available.
