Grady Nouis sees a problem coming.
“The socialist policies of Boulder and Denver are moving North,” wrote Nouis, who is running for the Republican nomination for statehouse District 48, in an email. “The attacks on the oil and gas industry, increased agricultural and small business regulations, and massively increased transportation are all negatively impacting Weld County.”
Nouis, who said he was a volunteer for President Donald Trump’s campaign in 2016 and has held leadership roles with the Colorado Republican party including precinct and district captain and state and congressional bonus member, as well as secretary in a former house district, is looking to become a relatively fresh face in the conservative wing of the Colorado statehouse.
“I have years of advocacy fighting for gun rights and the right to life,” Nouis wrote, “strengthening free markets, and protecting our communities against sanctuary city policies.”
Nouis see what he considers attacks on the Northern Colorado as highly problematic.
“We need to be fighting for job creation and retention, reducing business barriers and prioritize funding for our roads and bridges immediately,” he wrote.
Policy priorities for Nouis include restoration of gun rights, “including repealing ERPO ‘Red Flag’ Bill which violates many Constitutional rights.” He also sees transportation reform as a policy priority.
“Look at reduction in subsidies to RTD transportation which cost Colorado taxpayers $634 million in 2019,” he wrote.
Nouis is running for the nomination against fellow Republican Tonya Van Beber in the June 30 primary. The winner of the primary will face off against Holly Herson, a Democrat, in the November general election.
Nouis pointed to his status as a lifelong Republican and the grassroots efforts of his campaign as what differentiated himself from his opponent, Van Beber.
